Dear Sock Club,

The newsletter answers several questions I know you've been pondering.

  1. Is there a speeddating event for people who like fish?
  2. What happened at the last Sock Club meeting?
  3. Is there anything I can read between sips of my poolside cocktail?

As always, happy dating!

June Meeting Notes: Lisa Steadman, The Relationship Journalist
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Will making a shrine to mourn the loss of your relationship help you move on to the next one? This was one of the topics of discussion at the June meeting hosted by D.
Many thanks to D for providing tasty treats like fat-free brownies and melon wrapped in prosciutto. I made my first caramel apple martinis and, my, they are strong!
Our guest speaker, The Relationship Journalist Lisa Steadman, fresh off her book tour and Today Show appearance, shared with us her 12-step program for breaking bad love habits that keep you from moving forward to achieving your dating goals. Some steps include:
1) Identify negative beliefs that drag you down and let go of them. 2) Be happy now. Don't live so much for the future. Don't put off happiness. This reminds me of the book, "The Power of Now" supposedly read by Paris Hilton to prepare her for jail. 3) Love your life. If you don't love it, change it so you do! 4) For 30 days, complete this sentence, "Love is ________" 5) Shake things up and do fun things. 6) Practice trying on guys. This reminds me of shoe shopping and the book "The Year of Yes" in which the author went out with every guy who asked her out during one year. 7) Don't repeat what doesn't work for you.
Lisa offers monthly seminars and workshops with author Jeff Hodge in Los Angeles so check out her website if you're interested. The next ones are on July 22 and August 19.
2 bachelors+3 years+100s of interviews with couples married over 40 years=1 book
Find the secrets to long-term love in "Project Everlasting" by Mat Boggs and Jason Miller. I always wondered what "happily ever after" was really all about and I'm glad these guys took it upon themselves to find out.
