January Meeting Notes - Get SMART with Lynda

Thanks a bunch to W. for hosting the Sock Club meeting in January. Her pasta and garlic bread were the best! Life coach Lynda Levy was our guest speaker. Her background includes studying at The Academy for Coaching Excellence and work in conflict resolution.
First she clarified the difference between a goal and a resolution. A goal is an area or object toward which play is directed in order to score whereas a resolution is an idea. If you want something to show up in your life you must focus your energy on a goal connected to your life intention, not just make resolutions. If you aim at nothing, you may well get nothing.
Coaching is about taking authentic actions toward a goal. Lynda explained that a goal must be SMART: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-based. Set a goal such as one date within the next 30 days and then take action steps to get there. Ask for positive support from trusted individuals while working towards your goal so you can work through barriers. Remember that cheerleaders sometimes yell the wrong cheers so be sure to let them know what you need!
Lynda suggested creating treasure maps which visually show the way to your goals and landmarks along the way. After all, isn’t your life a precious treasure?
How do you know your goals are the right ones? If the thought of fulfilling your goal fills you with joy, then you’re on the right track. If instead you feel relief, then perhaps this goal belongs on your “to do” list.
To conclude, Lynda offered a definition of success as doing what we said we would do. So if you decide to date and you do, then you have already succeeded. Hooray!
